David was a fantastic colleague and friend who was always so accessible even during outside-of-work hours! David seemed to have so many interests outside of his specialist field (especially sports!) that you felt that you could chat away with him about anything. He was larger than life and I look back fondly to many a long lunch talking South Asian politics at the Chiang Mai restaurant in Oxford during those times.
